Silvermine East - Steenberg higher peak (1/1)

Tim, Bridget and I set off from Silvermine East parking area and took the path to the left around the base of Wolfkop and up the valley onto the Steenberg ridge.

A delicate little crassula flowering in the middle of the path.

Looking back towards Tokai and Constantiaberg...

The mountain was a garden, with Adenandra most prominent all over and even lining the sides of the trail.  The plant on the right is a densely flowering Gnidia.

On the summit plateau there were large bushes of Coleonema with tiny white honey-fragranced flowers.  Our tea spot overlooking Tokai was surrounded by more of these soft-leaved bushes that give off a strong licorice scent when you brush past them.

There were also many Gladiolus debilis (Painted ladies) with exquisite fine markings.

After descending the Steenberg ridge we joined the jeep track as far as Junction Pool and then took the parallel hiking trail, which re-joined the jeep track near to the waterfall.

The waterfall kloof with purple flowering keurbooms.

And looking south from the same vantage point - the rocky spur with flowering Mimetes shrubs.

Just before ending the hike, we showed Tim the hidden pool.

What is this all about?

I have this goal to do 52 hikes in 52 weeks. It's not an epic challenge - many people do double that. But I would like us to get out more, do different things, with lots of different people. Starting now on Sunday 28 October 2014.
